What is your child learning this week?

Math: We are wrapping up true or false equations and learning about missing addends.

Phonics: The phonics focus for the week is digraphs th and wh.
Spelling words this week:  thin, thank, math, path, whale, when, had, him, long, way

ELA/Daily 5:  In ELA, we are doing various Thanksgiving activities, such as syllable sort, putting words in ABC order, reading passages, etc. In Daily 5, we are continuing with Daily 5 rotations (Read to Self, Read to Someone, Word Work, Work on Writing, and Listen to Reading).

Writing: We will be doing various Thanksgiving writing activities.

Science/Social Studies: For Social Studies, we are wrapping up landforms. For Science, we are going to the Science Lab and learning about sound. For STEM, we are doing a STEM challenge requiring the students to build their own obstacle course.

Important Dates:
- November 21: First grade Thanksgiving Lunch! Lunch is at 12:15 pm. Hope you can make it!
- November 21: Progress reports go home.

What is your child learning this week?

Math: We are learning how to determine true or false addition and subtraction equations.

Phonics: The phonics focus for the week is digraphs sh and ch.
Spelling words this week:  chat, such, flash, shift, crush, rich, all, call, did, first

ELA/Daily 5:  In ELA, we are continuing with Nonfiction Text Features, as well retelling stories and their main ideas. In Daily 5, we are continuing with Daily 5 rotations (Read to Self, Read to Someone, Word Work, Work on Writing, and Listen to Reading).

Writing: We will be practicing researching for informational writing, and writing an informational writing piece about turkeys.

Science/Social Studies: We are starting to learn about the different types of landforms. 

Important Dates:
- November 12: Papa John's night! 
November 15: FBI Breakfast (7:00-7:45 am)

What is your child learning this week?

Math: We are practicing addition and subtraction strategies.

Phonics: The phonics focus for the week is ending -ck.
Spelling words this week:  deck, sock, neck, stick, black, trick, give, here, kind, letter

ELA/Daily 5:  In ELA, we are learning about Nonfiction Text Features. In Daily 5, we are continuing with Daily 5 rotations (Read to Self, Read to Someone, Word Work, Work on Writing, and Listen to Reading).

Writing: We will be practicing researching for informational writing.

Science/Social Studies: We are continuing to learn about Benjamin Franklin. In Science, we are going to the Science Lab to learn about light!

- November 7: Chick-fil-a Night! (5:00-8:00 pm)
