Happy Monday!
It's the second FULL week of school and the students are proving to me that they are getting used to the rules and routines of first grade! 😃
This week in math we are talking about graphing. The three types we are focusing on are bar graphs, picture graphs, and tally charts. The students are doing very well with these and we will continue to practice them throughout the week with various activities.
In science, we are diving deeper into weather and talking about types of precipitation: rain, sleet, hail, and snow. I encourage you to ask your students about these as we continue to learn about them. This week we will also be talking about the four seasons and how different seasons usually have certain types of weather.
In reading, we are working on "Read to Self" which is part of Daily 5. We have been working on our stamina, and seeing if we can read for certain periods of time while we stay in one spot, remain quiet, and focus on reading. So far the students have jumped from 2 minutes to 7 minutes! They are doing great. The end goal is 20 minutes of reading and I know that we can get there. Tomorrow our goal is 8 minutes!
Reminders:
- Homework was brought home with your child today in their purple folder. Please try to have them complete it and turn it in on Friday.
- Spelling test on Friday! Practice the words with your child to help them prepare.
