I hope everyone had an awesome break and HAPPY FALL!! I love this time of year, I'm just hoping the weather cools down soon! We shared what we did over the break today and it sounds like everyone had a great time.

What is your child learning this week?

Math: We are finishing up place value and focusing on word problems, as well as adding and subtracting within 10.

Phonics: The phonics focus for the week is three letter blends.
Spelling words this week: splint, squint, strap, strand, scrub, spring, day, find, go, her

ELA/Daily 5: In ELA, we are starting wordless stories. These are books without words! We are "reading" these stories, or rather looking at the pictures and practicing retelling the stories. This helps students see the importance of looking at pictures as well as words. That way, if they can't read the words, they can still use the pictures to help them understand what is happening in the story. In Daily 5, we are continuing with Daily 5 rotations (Read to Self, Read to Someone, Word Work, Work on Writing, and Listen to Reading).

Writing: We will be focusing on how to write narratives.

Science/Social Studies: In Science, we are talking about magnets! We have STEM day on Friday and the students will create a magnetic path with a start to finish that a magnet can be pulled through.

Reminders
-Conference week is fast approaching (October 14-18), and I sent home conference forms with your child today. Please check over the day and time assigned to you, fill out the bottom slip, and return it to school as soon as possible. If the day and/or time doesn't work for you, please write down the days and times that will work for you and we can figure out a different time. Just a reminder that it will be Early Release all week during conference week.
-Picture day is on Thursday, October 3. Please have your students dressed for the day. ðŸ™‚ Picture order forms were sent home before break. You can turn them in any time between now and Thursday.
- STEM Day is Friday, October 4. There will be a walk-through where people from the county will walk around the school and see the students in action while they work on their STEM challenge. For this reason, please have them wear their Addison shirts to school on Friday.
